We have (almost) officially left NZ.

We had a skippers briefing this morning and while conditions are not great, they are the best we can expect for the foreseeable future, so we are departing tomorrow.

Some boats are leaving today to get a few more miles ahead of an approaching low, but may need to bash into some headwinds for a day.

The more we wait, the more we spend…

Having time on our hands means we are always looking for things to do and that often leads to spending… Today it was buying a BBQ and then working out where it should be stored and how it can be used.

We have great hopes of being able to depart on Tuesday.

New gas bottle goes here…

Hurry up and wait

After a very enjoyable evening at anchor in the bay of islands, we heard on the grapevine that there may be some good news regarding the weather.

After rushing back to the marina we found that the situation had not changed that much. It is unlikely that we will be able to leave before Monday, most likely Tuesday, possibly neither.

After a few boat chores we set off in Phillip’s loaner X6 across the car ferry to Russell for a very enjoyable lunch and a cruise around that side of the bay of islands.
